Chromium Corundum Manufacturer & Supplier
Chromium corundum is a better fit than white fused alumina when the job needs high hardness but the abrasive grain cannot be too friable.
HONREL supplies chromium corundum, also known as pink fused alumina or pink corundum, for precision grinding, coated abrasives and high-temperature refractory materials. Our PA grades cover F16–F320, with low-, medium- and high-chromium options based on Cr₂O₃ content.

Why Add Chromium to Corundum?
Chromium corundum starts with alumina and adds chromium oxide during high-temperature fusion.
The point is not the pink or deep-red colour.
Compared with white corundum, chromium corundum keeps similar hardness but has higher toughness. The grain is less prone to premature fracture under load, which is useful when a grinding operation needs both cutting ability and grain retention.
In shop-floor terms, the choice often comes down to friability versus toughness.
White fused alumina is highly friable and exposes fresh cutting edges readily. Chromium-modified corundum shifts the balance toward tougher grain behaviour.
That is why PA is commonly considered for precision grinding, tool grinding and abrasive products working on harder metals.
Low, Medium or High Chromium?
HONREL separates its PA abrasive grain by Cr₂O₃ content.
| HONREL Grade | Cr₂O₃ | Al₂O₃ | Na₂O | Размер |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Low-Chromium PA | 0.20–0.45% | ≥98% | ≤0.35% | F16–F320 |
| Medium-Chromium PA | 0.45–1.00% | ≥98% | ≤0.35% | F16–F320 |
| High-Chromium PA | 1.00–2.20% | ≥98% | ≤0.35% | F16–F320 |
Higher Cr₂O₃ is not automatically the better purchase.
The correct grade depends on how much toughness, grain retention and friability the abrasive system needs. If an existing wheel or abrasive formulation already works, matching its current chemistry and grit is usually safer than moving straight to the highest chromium grade.
For replacement material, send HONREL the current COA or TDS. We can compare the chemistry before recommending a grade.

Do Not Buy PA by Colour Alone
The same material family may appear in purchasing documents as chromium corundum, chrome corundum, pink fused alumina, pink aluminium oxide or pink corundum.
Colour descriptions such as pink, rose or deep red are useful for identification, but they are not enough for an industrial RFQ.
A better specification includes:
| Check | What It Tells You |
|---|---|
| Cr₂O₃ | Chromium grade |
| Al₂O₃ | Base alumina purity |
| Na₂O | Alkali impurity level |
| Fe₂O₃ | Iron impurity limit |
| Grit size | Required particle-size grade |
| Объемная плотность | Packing behaviour for the specified grit |
| COA | Batch chemistry actually supplied |
HONREL’s standard PA specification also lists Fe₂O₃ ≤0.3%, bulk density of 1.4–1.9 g/cm³ for F16–F320 material and apparent density of ≥3.8 g/cm³.
When comparing suppliers, check density together with the corresponding grit. A single density figure without particle-size context tells you much less about the actual abrasive grain.
Where Chromium Corundum Fits in Grinding
Chromium corundum is used where surface finish and abrasive durability both matter.
Typical work includes precision grinding of measuring tools, machine-tool spindles, instrument parts, threaded workpieces and templates.
It is also used in coated abrasives for wood sanding and for grinding non-ferrous metals such as copper and brass.
The practical reason is straightforward: compared with white corundum, the tougher chromium-containing grain is less prone to breaking down too early. This can help maintain a smoother grinding action where excessive grain fracture is undesirable.
Chromium Corundum for Refractories
PA is not limited to grinding media.
ХОНРЕЛ chromium corundum has a listed refractoriness above 1850°C and is also supplied as a raw material for special high-temperature refractory products.
For refractory purchasing, abrasive grit terminology may not be the main requirement. Chemical composition, fine-powder specification and particle-size distribution can become more important.
HONREL lists fine powder with Al₂O₃ ≥98%, Na₂O ≤0.35%, Fe₂O₃ ≤0.3% and Cr₂O₃ within 0.2–2.0%.
If the material is going into a refractory formulation rather than an abrasive product, tell us the required chemistry and particle-size distribution so the quotation is based on the right material.
Replacing White Fused Alumina or Another PA Grade?
If white fused alumina is breaking down too quickly, a tougher chromium corundum may be worth evaluating. If the current pink fused alumina already gives the required cut rate, wheel life and finish, the first job is usually to match that material rather than change the chemistry without a reason.
For a replacement enquiry, HONREL can work from an existing COA, TDS or purchasing specification.
Source Chromium Corundum from HONREL
HONREL supplies chromium corundum as part of its абразивные и огнеупорные материалы range, alongside other industrial alumina materials.
You can review the full Chromium Corundum specifications for the available low-, medium- and high-chromium PA grades.
For a direct match, send:

If chromium corundum is only one material on your sourcing list, you can also review the HONREL product range или свяжитесь с HONREL with the complete requirement.
HONREL can then confirm the suitable specification before quotation.
Часто задаваемые вопросы
Is chromium corundum the same as pink fused alumina?
The names are commonly used for the same chromium-modified fused alumina family. For purchasing, confirm Cr₂O₃ content and grit instead of relying on the colour name alone.
What chromium grades does HONREL supply?
HONREL lists low-chromium PA at 0.20–0.45% Cr₂O₃, medium-chromium PA at 0.45–1.00%, and high-chromium PA at 1.00–2.20%.
What grit sizes are available?
The standard HONREL PA range covers F16–F320. Fine powder specifications are also listed separately.
Is chromium corundum tougher than white fused alumina?
HONREL specifies chromium corundum as having similar hardness but higher toughness than white corundum. This makes it useful where premature grain breakdown is a problem.
Can HONREL match an existing PA abrasive?
Yes. Send the current COA, TDS or purchasing specification. The existing chemistry and grit can be compared with HONREL’s low-, medium- and high-chromium grades.
