Octinoxate

Octyl methoxycinnamate or ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate (INCI) or octinoxate (USAN), trade names Eusolex 2292 and Uvinul MC80, is an organic compound that is an ingredient in some sunscreens and lip balms. It is an ester formed from methoxycinnamic acid and 2-ethylhexanol. It is a liquid that is insoluble in water.

It is primarily used in sunscreens and other cosmetics to absorb UV-B rays from the sun, protecting the skin from damage. It is also used to reduce the appearance of scars.

Octinoxate is a strong UVB absorber. It is an oil soluble, colorless, virtually odorless liquid,which remains a liquid at temperatures as low as -10℃  and can be easily incorporated in the oil phase of a sunscreen formulation. OMC boosts the SPF when used in combination with other UV filters. It is ideal for the formulationof water-resistant sunscreen products. OMC is an excellent solubilizer for crystalline UV absorbers, such as AVB, Diethylhexyl Butamido Triazone, Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate and Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine.

Octinoxate can be used as an antiaging agent and UV absorber for plastics and inks in industry.
